Location: The British International School Shanghai, Puxi

We’re looking to recruit a Teacher of EAL ​​​​​​​ to join our BISS Puxi school, a Nord Anglia Education school.

THE SCHOOL

BISS Puxi is a truly international school with over 60 nationalities represented in the school community. We are a high achieving international school where our results have continued to improve year on year across every Key Stage. We are non-selective and yet, in June 2021, 66% of our Year 11 students achieved 5+ A*/A grades. Our Year 13 IB Diploma students achieved an average of 38.4 points. 39% of our students achieved 40+ points. These levels of attainment have been consistent for over six years. On average, our students score five points above the global average in their IB Diploma, as well as being offered and accepting places at the world’s top 30 universities. These outstanding results come from outstanding teaching and learning at all ages from 2 to 18. However, we are not complacent and strive for continual improvement through a collegiate and supportive environment, recognising staff and students as learners alike.

The school’s guiding philosophy is ‘Be Ambitious’ and for all of our school community to ‘Think more, achieve more, be more’.  This aligns with Nord Anglia’s own vision regarding an ambitious philosophy. In realising this, the school has a clear and coherent development plan, focused on the 5 pillars of: Academic Excellence; Internationalism; STEAM with MIT; Performing Arts with Juilliard; and Sport. THE ROLE

Join our fast-paced international environment, and you will deliver UK National Curriculum, IGSCE and International Baccalaureate programmes. You will challenge your students to set ambitious targets for themselves and seek out and use innovative teaching practices to enhance our students’ experiences and outcomes.

ABOUT YOU

You will be able to adapt quickly to our fast-paced international environment, you will possess a university degree, a recognised teaching qualification, and teaching experience. Committed and creative, you will be reflective on your own teaching and student outcomes, seeking out and implementing new ideas and innovative methods to raise the school’s level of achievement.

Keen to collaborate and share your specialist expertise, you will be a fitting ambassador for the school. You will communicate with confidence across diverse audiences and situations, using your expertise to build strong relationships with parents and students. You will also be able to meet visa-related restrictions for China including minimum Bachelor degree and 2 yrs of working experience as well as non-criminal record valid within 6 months.

OUR GLOBAL ACADEMIC RESULTS

The 2021-2022 school year was one of the strongest ever in terms of Nord Anglia Education’s academic results. For the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, our students achieved a 35.1 global point average, far exceeding the global average of 31.9. A third of students eared a perfect score of 45. In the A-levels, our students achieved 60.5% of grades at A*-A, along with 77.3% at A*-B.The group’s latest IGCSE student cohort, consisting of 2,351 students across 41 Nord Anglia schools, achieving an outstanding set of results, with 52.8% of grades at 9 – 7 for the year and 90.8% at 9 – 4.

Selection Process

The closing date for applications is 30th April 2023, though we shall be conducting interviews on a rolling basis and reserve the right to make an appointment before the deadline. Due to global travel restrictions, all interviews will be conducted via MS Teams or online video calls. There will be three stages of interview, including a panel interview.
