Job Description

Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in the Division of Landscape Architecture in the Faculty of Architecture (Ref. 520181), to commence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.  Exceptionally outstanding candidates at Associate Professor level may be considered for appointment with tenure.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in a subject area relevant to conservation, landscape architecture, or environmental design. Preference will be given to those having a strong track record of academic research publication and securing competitive research grants.  Applicants should have at least three years’ relevant experience in teaching at the university level and course/curriculum development.  They should demonstrate an established record of teaching and research either in heritage conservation, with a focus on fully integrated human, social, environmental, and economic sustainability in the constructed environment, or landscape architecture and environmental history, with a focus on emerging economies and non-western traditions. They should be able to demonstrate a critical and sensitive approach to community development and environmental justice.

The appointee will assist in the Division’s leadership in the areas of environmental history and theory and the delivery of a strategic vision that builds on ongoing research and pedagogical initiatives within its Landscape and Conservation programmes.  

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addiction to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
