Job Description
Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in Synthetic Biology (several posts) in the School of Biomedical Sciences (Ref.: 516830), to commence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term contract, with the possibility of renewal and with consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract, subject to satisfactory performance.
Applicants should possess: (i) a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in a related discipline; (ii) evidence of international recognition and a strong record of scholarship with a demonstrated ability to work across disciplines towards new research initiatives; (iii) a strong commitment to engage students in inquiry-based learning at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels; and (iv) a strong track record of high-quality research as indicated by publication record and external grants. Applicants with a strong track record in leading and coordinating large-scale collaborative projects in synthetic biology would be advantageous. Competitive, ambitious, and creative candidates with a minimum of 2-3 years of postdoctoral training in key Synthetic Biology areas are also welcome.
The appointees are expected to establish research in the area of synthetic biology with a focus on applying synthetic biology for fundamental scientific investigation or innovative technology development in thematic applications in biomedicine, as well as establish an innovative and well-funded research group that is open to interdisciplinary collaboration. They are also expected to participate in teaching biomedical sciences subjects relevant to human health and diseases spanning basic biochemical, cellular and molecular biology to whole body organization and homeostasis, across a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes including medical, biomedical sciences, pharmacy, nursing and/or Chinese medicine. In the course of career development, the appointees are expected to make substantial contributions to the School’s strategic developments in academic and research collaborations locally, regionally and internationally. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointments will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will also be provided as applicable.
