Job Description

Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Clinical Assistant Professor in Restorative Dental Sciences (Cariology) of the Faculty of Dentistry (Ref.: 520895), to commence as soon as possible, on a four-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second four-year fixed-term contract.

The Faculty of Dentistry is the only dental school in Hong Kong and is the only one in Greater China that uses English as the medium of instruction.  The high quality of the Faculty’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, research excellence and clinical/professional services have attained global recognition, as evidenced by the Faculty’s World Ranking among the top 1% by the QS World University Rankings by Subject in the past nine years.  The Faculty’s strategic research themes include Clinical Artificial Intelligence, Craniofacial Regeneration, Microbiome Innovation, Oral Cancer, and Population Oral Health.  The Faculty also plays an important role in public and professional education through its knowledge exchange (KE) activities as well as in health research and promotions in international, regional and local communities.

The Faculty is seeking an academic clinician with a strong interest in clinical dental practice, teaching and learning, with established evidence and passion for research.  Applicants should have demonstrated skills in teaching and learning in Restorative Dental Sciences with demonstrated expertise focusing on Cariology and Operative Dentistry.  They should be able to demonstrate expertise in contemporary clinical practice and philosophies related to Restorative Dentistry (Cariology and Operative Dentistry) and tooth conservation.  A demonstrated research track record in a field relating to restorative dental sciences is essential.  

Applicants should possess a Dental Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, and a Master of Dental Surgery degree in a field relevant to Restorative Dental Sciences.  They should also have (i) ability in undergraduate teaching and clinical practice; (ii) a strong interest in research; (iii) ability and willingness to participate in Faculty affairs; and (iv) participation in knowledge exchange activities.  The appointee will play a major role in the clinical learning of BDS students and participate in research.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.  Housing benefits will also be provided as applicable.
