Job Description

Applicants are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Clinical Associate Professor/Clinical Assistant Professor or Tenure-Track Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in Digital/Precision Dentistry in the Faculty of Dentistry (Ref.: 519495), to commence as soon as possible, on a four-year (for clinical post) or three-year (for non-clinical post) fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal upon mutual agreement and with consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second four-year (for clinical post) or three-year (for non-clinical post) fixed-term contract.

The Faculty of Dentistry is the only dental school in Hong Kong and is the only one in Greater China that uses English as the medium of instruction.  The high quality of the Faculty’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, research excellence, and clinical/professional services have attained global recognition, as evidenced by the Faculty’s global rankings among the top 1% by the QS World University Rankings by Subject in the past eight years.  The Faculty’s strategic research themes include Clinical Artificial Intelligence, Craniofacial Regeneration, Microbiome Innovation, Oral Cancer, and Population Oral Health.  The Faculty also plays an important role in public and professional education through its knowledge exchange (KE) activities as well as in dental and oral health research and promotions in international, regional and local communities.

For appointment as Clinical Associate Professor, applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Dentistry, clinical specialist or equivalent status, and a Ph.D. degree or equivalent with research experience in genomics, computational biology, bioinformatics or artificial intelligence.  They should also have (i) proven evidence for quality research, publications in high quality international journals, and local and regional recognition for scholarship and professional expertise; (ii) demonstrated ability in undergraduate and postgraduate education, clinical practice and research; (iii) active participation in Faculty and University affairs; and (iv) solid experience in KE activities and leadership in professional education programs or community engagement.

For appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor, applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Dentistry, and a Master of Dental Surgery degree or equivalent with research experience in genomics, computational biology, bioinformatics or artificial intelligence.  They should also have (i) ability in undergraduate and postgraduate clinical teaching and clinical practice; (ii) potential for and interest in research; (iii) ability and willingness to participate in Faculty affairs; and (iv) experience in KE activities.

For appointment as Associate Professor, applicants must possess a relevant Ph.D. degree or equivalent qualifications with a distinguished research record in genomics, computational biology, bioinformatics or artificial intelligence.  They should have an excellent track record in research.  They should also have (i) proven ability for quality research, publications in high quality international journals, evidence of local and regional recognition for scholarship; (ii) proven ability to conduct quality teaching and directing education programmes; (iii) demonstrated participation in Faculty and University affairs; and (iv) demonstrated ability in KE activities.

For appointment as Assistant Professor, applicants must possess a relevant Ph.D. degree or equivalent qualifications with a distinguished research record in genomics, computational biology, bioinformatics or artificial intelligence.  They should have (i) definite promise for quality research; (ii) proven ability or definite promise in teaching; (iii) ability and willingness to participate in Faculty and University affairs; and (iv) participation in KE activities.

The appointee is expected to (i) establish an innovative and well-funded research team in Digital/Precision Dentistry; (ii) develop active interdisciplinary collaborations with internal and external partners, including scientists and clinicians to drive the ideas from basic concepts to clinical practice; (iii) participate in teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels; and (iv) participate in Faculty and University affairs as well as KE activities.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of the basic salary.  Housing benefits will also be provided as applicable.
