Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Clinical Professor/Clinical Associate Professor in Restorative Dental Sciences of the Faculty of Dentistry (Ref.: 516416), to commence as soon as possible, on a four-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal upon mutual agreement and with consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second four-year fixed-term contract. Exceptionally outstanding candidates at Professor/Associate Professor level may be considered for appointment on tenure terms subject to approval.
The Faculty of Dentistry is the only dental school in Hong Kong and is the only one in Greater China that uses English as the medium of instruction. The high quality of the Faculty’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, research excellence and clinical/professional services have attained global recognition, as evidenced by the Faculty’s global rankings among the top 1% by the QS World University Rankings by Subject in the past eight years. The Faculty’s strategic research themes include Clinical Artificial Intelligence, Craniofacial Regeneration, Microbiome Innovation, Oral Cancer, and Population Oral Health. The Faculty also plays an important role in public and professional education through its knowledge exchange (KE) activities as well as in oral health research and promotions in international, regional and local communities.
The Faculty is seeking an academic clinician with a strong interest in clinical dental practice, teaching and learning, with established evidence and passion for research. Applicants should have demonstrated skills in teaching and learning in Restorative Dental Sciences. They should also be able to demonstrate expertise in contemporary clinical practice and philosophies in the broad field of Restorative Dentistry. A demonstrated research track record in a field relating to Restorative Dental Sciences is highly desirable. The appointee will play a major role in the clinical learning of BDS students, as well as a role in specialty postgraduate training depending on the applicant’s expertise and level of experience.
For appointment as Clinical Professor, applicants should possess a Dental Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, be recognized as clinical specialist in a discipline related to Restorative Dental Sciences or equivalent status, and possess a Ph.D. degree or equivalent. They should have (i) outstanding research and scholarly achievements with international recognition; (ii) demonstrated leadership in teaching and learning; (iii) leadership in their clinical specialty; (iv) leadership in Faculty and University affairs; and (v) leadership in knowledge exchange (KE) activities with international recognition.
For appointment as Clinical Associate Professor, applicants should possess a Dental Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, be recognized as a clinical specialist in a discipline related to Restorative Dental Sciences or equivalent status, and possess a Ph.D. degree or equivalent. They should have (i) a proven ability for quality research, publications in high quality international journals, and evidence of local and regional recognition for scholarship and professional expertise; (ii) demonstrated ability in undergraduate and postgraduate education, clinical practice and research; (iii) demonstrated participation in Faculty and University affairs; and (iv) demonstrated ability in KE activities, and leadership in professional education programmes or community engagement.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will also be provided as applicable.
