Content

Taiwans northeast coast was once known to have vast coral reef communities. From an aerial view, the coastline showed a vibrant underwater world. However, the coral coverage has been steadily declining over time. What are the reasons behind this change? Can human intervention help corals increase their coverage and regain their former glory? This project focuses on the coral-growing habits of the northeast coast by conducting detailed chemical analyses, including organic and inorganic nutrients, amino acids, ATP, inorganic carbon chemistry, reductive substances, water turbidity, and composition of the suspended particles in the water. We will collaborate closely with coral biologists to investigate coral and benthic organisms and comprehensively explore the most suitable environment for coral growth. We aim to identify the optimal marine areas for coral restoration. Our findings will also provide the government and relevant organizations with science-based recommendations for coral conservation and restoration policies.

We are looking for a passionate professional who loves corals, can perform chemical analysis, and is filled with curiosity. We look forward to having you on our team.
