Job Description

Applications are invited for appointment as Professor/Associate Professor on tenure terms or Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Philosophy in the School of Humanities (Philosophy) (Ref.: 519294), to commence on August 1, 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter.  Appointment as Assistant Professor will be made on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and with consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in philosophy. The position is open to all areas of specialization, but applicants must have an interest in – and commitment to – pursuing research on philosophy of AI or philosophy of technology more generally.

The appointee is expected to develop a vigorous, independent research programme, to excel in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and to handle the usual non-teaching duties. Furthermore, the appointee is expected to develop and teach courses in their area of expertise for the Faculty’s newly established Bachelor of Arts in Humanities and Digital Technologies Programme.  Total teaching load will be three to four courses per year for each position, including introductory first-year courses. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointment on fixed-term will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.  Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
